Alzheimer's disease families and caregivers honored with memory garden; 'green' shopping bags bring awareness; 2009 memory walk
April 6-9 Activities
The week prior to the garden’s opening, April 6-9, some very special activities will take place in the main lobby.
- Information on the diabetes/stroke connection to Alzheimer’s
- Tips for coping with caregiver stress
- Computerized memory testing and various brain games to test your memory skills.
Staff from the Brain and Spine Institute will be present in the lobby from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. April 6-9 to answer questions and take registrations for the 2009 Knox County Memory Walk.
April 13-17 - Alzheimer's Awareness Garden
The Brain and Spine Institute in collaboration with the Cole Neuroscience Center will again host the Third Annual Alzheimer's Awareness Garden April 13 - 17. The garden honors families and caregivers impacted by Alzheimer's disease.
Pictures of a loved one may be submitted for display in the garden by contacting Karen Easter at 865.305.9159.
The garden will be located in the main lobby of The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
In addition, the Brain and Spine Institute will offer Alzheimer's Awareness shopping bags - environment-friendly and just a minimum donation of $5 required with all proceeds benefiting the Cole Neuroscience Center.

2009 Knox County Memory Walk
The walk is set for Saturday, April 18 at 2nd Presbyterian Church located at 2829 Kingston Pike. Registration begins at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
The walk is approximately one mile.
