THE MAN RUN - 2012

A Family event that creates awareness towards prostate cancer.

Join us for Knoxville’s 5th annual The Man Run.  All proceeds raised will support free prostate cancer screenings and education in East Tennessee. The Man Run is a 10K run 5K run/1-mile fun run/walk set for Saturday, August 25th at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. The nation will observe national Prostate Cancer Awareness Month during September. To kick off this special recognition month, join us for Knoxville’s 5th annual  prostate awareness event, The Man Run.

The 10k will start promptly at 7 a.m. followed by the 5K and the 1 mile at 8 a.m.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and is responsible for more deaths than any other cancer, except for lung cancer.

Prostate cancer will affect one in six men at some point in their lifetime.

  • A recent 2012 ACS report estimates there to be 241,7940 new prostate cancer cases compared to 226,870 new breast cancer cases.
  • Men have a 35% higher chance of getting prostate cancer than women do of being diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Prostate cancer accounts for 1 in 4 newly diagnosed cancers each year among American men.
  • Cancer is the second must common death cause of death in the US exceeded by heart disease. In Tennessee, there will be over 4,900 new cases diagnosed in 2012.
  • A recent study from the Tennessee department of health, in conjunction with Vanderbilt Institute for Medicine, concluded that in 2008, prostate cancer was the leading cause of death for men ages 40 - 64 that eclipsed cardiovascular disease.
