Mobile Mammography

In the interest of promoting good health and regular breast health check-ups to women across the East Tennessee area, the UT Medical Center offers a mobile mammography unit dedicated to offering mammograms across the region. The University of Tennessee Medical Center began offering mobile mammography services in the late 1980s to women who may not otherwise have access. Now with the new state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit that arrived in May 2005, the medical center can continue to expand the frontiers of medicine.

The mobile mammography unit was purchased as a result of funding from a statewide Tennessee Women’s Health Initiative grant and other gifts. Custom built from the chassis up by Farber Specialty Vehicles in Columbus, Ohio, the new unit features a mammography suite equipped with the leading edge Lorad M-IV Platinum mammography system. A fully equipped examination room is on board for access to clinical breast examinations as well as other clinical and health services. The unit is handicapped accessible and meets all requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act. The new unit, decked out in Medical Center colors (orange and white), will be traveling the roads of East Tennessee to provide women access to mammography services in their community.

The state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit takes the Medical Center’s care on the road to serve women who need access to mobile mammography and cancer information that can save their lives.
