Cancer Institute Construction Updates
About the New Cancer Institute Building
In 2011 we broke ground on a new Cancer Institute. Our ongoing commitment to support patients and families throughout the region facing a cancer diagnosis, requires a new expanded facility to enhance the delivery of the numerous oncology services added by the medical center in recent years as well as to accommodate the sharply rising number of cancer cases. This will be the largest and most comprehensive facility in the region dedicated exclusively to cancer care. Even more important than adding the space, is designing the facility in a way that meets the needs of cancer patients as well as the physicians, nurses and staff treating them.
New Construction Began in: 2011
Location: The University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville campus - adjacent to the Heart Hospital
Budget: $20 to $25 million
New Space: 100,000 square feet
Features: The Cancer Institute has experienced many program expansions in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, the treatment of head and neck cancer, skin cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, lung cancer, urologic cancer and micro-vascular plastic surgery, which all will be found within the building. The CyberKnife Center as well as patient support through social, spiritual, outreach education and screening and the Benefitting You Boutique will be housed within the Cancer Institute.
Expected Completion: August 2012
