Befitting You Mastectomy Boutique
In cooperation with the University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute, the Befitting You Mastectomy Boutique was opened August 2003 on level three of the Cancer Institute. Too many women expressed their feelings of trauma and lack of confidence as they attempted to enter the world again after breast surgery. In a private setting, a trained breast prosthetic consultant is available to meet with customers one-on-one to find the product or garment that is right for each individual.
The consultants feel that it is important to keep a natural look after mastectomy. The products are very natural and comfortable. There is no reason for women to feel they look different because they will not. For the Befitting You staff, it is not just about providing products and services; it is about making women feel confident again. The consultants are especially proud of the Radiant Impressions breast form, which they bring to women in the East Tennessee area. This custom-made, non-surgical reconstruction form is so lifelike in texture, color and balance that a mastectomy patient could wear it without a bra.
In addition to the Radiant Impressions line, the Women’s Boutique carries other lines of prosthetics, including Airway, Amoena, Camp, Mystique, NearlyMe and others. A wide selection of bras is available, including an entire line of beautiful European bras that have panties to match. These bras are designed not only for women who have undergone mastectomies, but also for women who experience various types of back problems.
Other clothing items carried in the boutique include swimwear, bathing caps, sports bras, sport shorts, caps, scarves, turbans, drapes, shawls and accessories. Wigs, hairpieces and bangs at Befitting You are customized for women of all race and color. To keep a patient updated with the times, there is even a line of various braided styles. Jewelry and other gift items are also available.
To help customers deal with breast cancer, the store has a resource library stocked with support group information, inspirational materials, books and tapes on breast cancer.
