Emergency and Trauma Services is the only Level I Trauma Center in the area and serves as the tertiary referral center for medical care in East Tennessee, serving Knox County and 21 surrounding counties.

Beginning in February 2008, the Cancer Institute's licensed clinical social worker has provided useful cancer information for patients wanting to receive these information and resources online to assist patients and caregivers as well as coping strategies for the diagnosis of cancer. In addition to counseling, the social worker can provide assistance with financial concerns, insurance and other community resources as well as advanced directives and document notarization.
