In January 2005, the first patient was treated with CyberKnife at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Physicians from the Cancer Institute and the Brain and Spine Institute collaborated to bring this cutting-edge technology to patients in East Tennessee and surrounding states making available stereotactic radiosurgery as an option for those with tumors and painful neurological conditions.

The precise targeting of the CyberKnife allows treatment of conditions not only in the brain, but other parts of the body. This precision also minimizes the damage to healthy tissue surrounding the tumor and allows access to tumors not accessible by other means.

In many cases, CyberKnife is an effective alternative to traditional surgery. At the end of the second year of operation, 149 individuals and 186 lesions had been treated by our CyberKnife bringing new hope and enhanced quality of life to many.

Please take a moment to view our annual report highlighting our continued commitment and passion to provide the best possible care to those who come to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The newest technology coupled with our team of genuinely concerned health care professionals are here for your well-being.

Thank you for the opportunity to share these stories of success and hope.
