Calming Anxiety with Resources and Encouragement
From the Breast Care Service at UT Medical Center

C.A.R.E.©, a group of breast cancer survivors in Knoxville, Tenn., exists solely to provide confidential listening and support to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The group does not provide medical advice or opinions. However, it is prepared to direct women to resources that can further assist them. The group will

  • Provide early support and encouragement to persons newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Provide awareness of the C.A.R.E. program to UT Medical Center patients, staff and the community at large.
  • Provide training, resources and information to breast cancer survivors interested in becoming a C.A.R.E. program member.

The C.A.R.E. program was created in response to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients who had an overwhelming need to talk with someone who had “been in their shoes.” C.A.R.E. volunteers help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients deal with the multitude of feelings evoked when receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer and to reassure them that they, too, can be a survivor.

The Breast Care Service C.A.R.E. program is facilitated by John L. Bell, M.D., Medical Director; Anne Sprouse, Chaplain and breast cancer survivor; and Linda Cruze, R.N., Breast Health Specialist.

Contact the Breast Care Service at 865.305.6921 or 866.337.8824 ext. 6921 if you would like to talk with a C.A.R.E. breast cancer survivor or more information on the program.
