The Intern Program is designed to help welcome and familiarize the new RN graduate to Nursing at UT Medical Center. New graduates typically are hired into the medical surgical areas that represent the various service lines of the hospital. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the other Center for Women & Children’s Health areas have additional programs for new graduates. The program begins with general hospital orientation, followed by two weeks of class time and clinical preparation information. Two offerings are available: one at the end of May, and one at the end of June. All new graduates are assessed using the Performance Based Development System that determines their needs for clinical orientation and determines their individualized plan. Orientation is complete after successful completion of this program.
The Operating Room offers an eight-month residency and clinical rotation. Start date for the OR’s program is June 2008.
NOTE: This program requires a two-year commitment. Applicants need to apply early in the year.
Requirements
Interns must have successfully completed their Nursing program and be scheduled to sit for the NCLEX within two weeks of employment. Please provide at least one professional and one personal letter of reference upon interview for the position.
