Some of the services offered by Pastoral Care include the following.
- One-on-one counseling provided by phone and in person with members of the Pastoral Care Department.
- “Looking Ahead” is a bereavement (grieving) support group for adults.
- “Children Grieve, Too!” is a bereavement support group (grieving) for children and parents.
Chaplain Services
A chaplain is available in the hospital 24 hours a day and can be reached through the hospital operator or by pager. Chaplains routinely visit patients, counsel with them and pray with and/or for them. Chaplains are routinely asked to visit and consult with patients and/or family. (Chaplains also offer counseling in the Pastoral Care offices to patients, families and staff members.)
The chaplain resident staff, as in all residency programs, provides most of the 24-hour call coverage. Normally, residents are ordained ministers or lay leaders enrolled in this program to practice the art of pastoral care, for which they already have completed their academic education under the supervision of a person trained and certified to oversee and critique their work.
Absher Chapel
The chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital’s lobby across from the Gift Shop. It is open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation. Services are scheduled for the following times.
- Sunday, 7:15 a.m. and 9 a.m.
- Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.
