A. You should dial 911 in the event of a fire, police or medical emergency. You should call 911 if an ambulance is necessary. A medical emergency is defined as a medical condition with acute symptoms of sufficient severity, including severe pain, that a person could reasonably expect the absence of medical attention to result in serious jeopardy, impairment to bodily functions or dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.
^ TOP Q. Do I need an appointment?
A. You do not need an appointment to visit the Emergency Department. However, those with more serious emergencies are seen first. This means that sometimes people with less severe emergencies may need to wait longer.
^ TOP Q. What if I do not have a primary care doctor?
A. A primary care doctor is not required in order to visit the Emergency Department.
^ TOP Q. Where can I find a primary care doctor if I do not need emergency care?
A. You can find both primary care doctors and specialists by using UT Medical Center’s Find-A-Doctor. In addition, the hospital’s healthcare coordinators can assist in locating the right doctor for you as well as scheduling your appointment.
