When it comes to your health, nothing is more important than knowledge and understanding. The following Health Break from the University of Tennessee Medical Center contains information that can help you and your family live longer, healthier lives.

It’s a fact: most people experience lower back pain sometime during their life. It is seldom a single event causing back pain but more likely a history of sitting, standing or lifting incorrectly. Contrary to popular belief, inactivity is not an effective treatment. In most cases, it’s better to remain active while avoiding positions which may further aggravate the condition. You can find back pain relief with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs and gentle stretching, followed by heat or ice. If your back pain symptoms do not improve within 2 or 3 weeks, be sure to contact your care provider.

As many as 8 out of 10 Americans experience back pain in their lifetimes. To learn more about back pain, consult your physician. If your back pain persists for more than three days, visit your doctor right away.
