Incontinence Resources

When it comes to your health, nothing is more important than knowledge and understanding. The following Health Break from the University of Tennessee Medical Center contains information that can help you and your family live longer, healthier lives.

Urinary Incontinence in women is defined as an involuntary or accidental release of urine. There are two main types of chronic incontinence. Stress incontinence, which is often triggered by coughing, laughing, sneezing or jogging, and urge incontinence, also known as overactive bladder. Most women develop incontinence after childbirth due to the increased weakness in their pelvic muscles. The most successful method of prevention involves gradual strengthening of the pelvic muscles through a systematic exercise (Kegel Exercises) program.
