The Heart Lung Vascular Institute was established in the year 2000 to focus care on our nation’s biggest health problem, cardiovascular disease. Because cardiopulmonary systems are interdependent and share common etiologies and risk factors, an integrated, multidisciplinary center to include patients with lung disease as well as heart and vascular problems, was created. The Heart Lung Vascular Institute brings together expertise in clinical care, teaching and research. Patients receive exceptional healthcare combined with patient-centered care, premier technology and extensive patient/community education in one convenient outpatient facility.
In 2010, UT Medical Center will be opening the region's first dedicated Heart Hospital, an inpatient facility specializing in the care of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute patient. The new heart hospital will adopt the newest technologies and clinical guidelines to further improve patient quality of care, comfort and satisfaction. Patient room design facilitates bringing the caregiver to the bedside maximizing patient safety and customer service. The intensive care unit, as well as the step-down unit room design, will accommodate 24-hour-a-day stays by family members who will be integrated into the patient care team. The patient’s family also will benefit from the new hospital family ambassador service and information center.
Through a coordinated network of healthcare professionals, patients and their families are provided the best diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative medical services available for the treatment of heart lung and vascular disease. The goal of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute is to provide comprehensive, individualized services to the communities we serve.
