As one of several clinical pharmacy specialists within the pharmacy department, the pulmonary specialist’s goal is to bring a pharmacy perspective to the pulmonary patient’s healthcare team. By working closely with each member of the team, drug therapy issues are coordinated during the patient’s hospital stay and into the outpatient setting. The pulmonary pharmacy specialist is responsible for the following.
- Ensuring appropriate patient specific pharmacotherapy.
- Providing drug information and education to healthcare professionals and patients.
- Monitoring the effects of pharmacotherapy.
Additional duties in the outpatient setting include:
- Offering asthma classes for University Pulmonary & Critical Care patients, and
- Offering pulmonary medications class for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
