Breastfeeding: Helping you get started
A Certified Lactation Consultant is available to see patients in the hospital after delivery Monday - Saturday during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Outpatient services require an appointment
For concerns or questions after you have gone home call 865.305.9337 or to make an appointment.
UT Medical Center Lactation Services provides
- Up to date instructions on breastfeeding following the latest evidence based research
- Private and Individual instruction time
- Support for mothers with a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery
- Medela Symphony Electric Breast pumps to use if needed in the hospital
In addition to the individual instructions we also offer classes. Breastfeeding Classes for expectant parents are held:
- Every month
- Reservations are required
- Call 864.305.9300 to reserve a place for mom, dad and their support people or register on line through our Community Events Calendar
- The cost of the class is $20.00
- Make check payable to UT Medical Center at 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920
- An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will teach every class
- Bring your questions and concerns about breastfeeding
