UT Medical Center Recognizes Employee Achievements

UT Medical Center knows how dedicated its nurses are in upholding high quality standards everyday. Medical center nurses are in highly demanding positions that reflect the hospital and its standards while assisting patients and their families in achieving the best health outcomes. UT Medical Center recognizes its nurses in several ways.

  • Nurse Excellence Awards – As part of the annual Nurses Week celebration, UT Medical Center honors its nurses who serve as examples of the best professional nurses in the hospital. Nominated by their peers, each award winner is selected based on their dedication, exceptional clinical practice and distinguished contributions to the nursing profession. Read more about Nurse Excellence Awards and the winners.
  • Through the monthly Exceptional People Awards, employees may be rewarded and recognized for their efforts and commitment at all levels. Peers and supervisors alike may recognize individuals for their patient care, positive attitudes and a job very well done.
  • The Knoxville hospital also has an employee recognition program that begins with the patient. Through the Guardian Angel Program, patients may recognize any staff member that gave them high quality assistance and care. By making a gift in the name, patients can express their gratitude to their caregiver, faculty member or other hospital staff member who made their experience a positive one.
  • The DAISY Award - UT Medical Center recently implemented the DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses in honor of Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The Barnes family created The DAISY Foundation because of the extraordinary care they received from nurses. The award recognizes the super-human work nurses do every day all over the country. Nominees can be nominated by their peers, patients, families and physicians. A nurse will be selected quarterly by the Professional Development Council to receive the DAISY Award.
