University Joint Replacement Center

The University Joint Replacement Center (UJRC) provides its patients with a unique, wellness oriented program. Patients in need of joint replacement generally are in good health but are experiencing severe knee or hip pain that results in the need to have a joint replacement.

Our goal at the University Joint Replacement Center is to provide you with the highest quality of care from the orthopaedic surgery team and the joint replacement team. Your experience will begin with your University Orthopaedic Surgeons (UOS) physician who will determine your need for a joint replacement and schedule you for surgery. The UOS schedulers will provide you with instructions and your Joint Replacement Notebook, which will be your guide through surgery and recovery. This notebook should accompany you to every appointment, your joint education class and your surgery stay.

University Joint Class
Better education means better outcomes for patients. A few weeks before your surgery you will attend the University Joint Class in the Orthopaedic Center. UOS will schedule you for a class to attend on the same day as your Pre-Admission Testing appointment. You will have an opportunity to meet with our dedicated Joint Team and learn about what to expect during and after surgery. Our Team will also answer your questions about your surgery and stay with us. You are encouraged to have a family member or friend support you as your Joint Coach and attend this class with you. Your Joint Coach should be someone you can count on to assist in your recovery process during your stay at the University Joint Replacement Center.

University Joint Replacement Center
On the day of your surgery, you will be cared for by our dedicated orthopaedic surgery team who works exclusively with the University Orthopaedic Surgeons in the OR. This highly skilled team of physician's assistants (PAs) nurses and surgical technologists will work with your surgeon and anesthesiologist to provide you with superior surgical expertise.

As soon as you complete your surgery and recovery process, you will be transported to our dedicated patient unit for joint replacements on 4E. In this specially designed patient care unit you will be assisted by another dedicated team of nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing assistants and nutrition staff who work exclusively with our joint replacement patients. All patient rooms are private with flat screen TVs, sleep chairs for a visitor and specially designed joint chairs and recliners.

During your stay with us you will receive constant education through instruction, educational materials and videos. Our staff and fellow patients will offer you support and motivation to reach your fullest potential.

University Joint Zone
The University Joint Zone is made up of a group exercise and activities room and a physical therapy room that is located on the unit. Here you will be involved in group exercise with other joint replacement patients who had surgery on the same day. In addition, you will receive individualized physical and occupational therapy to address your personalized needs.

You will be dressed in your own clothes the day after surgery and encounter an experience that enhances your recovery process. Our goal is to return you to your normal activities as quickly as possible in a safe and comfortable environment.

We’d like to welcome you to the University Joint Replacement Center where we expect to exceed your expectations! If you have any questions, please call The University Joint Replacement Center at 865.305.7000.
