Emergency and Trauma Services is the only Level I Trauma Center in the area and serves as the tertiary referral center for medical care in East Tennessee, serving Knox County and 21 surrounding counties.

Gregory J. Mancini, MD
Dr. Gregory J. Mancini is the medical director for the Tennessee Weight Loss & Surgery Center. He joined the faculty as assistant professor of Surgery at the University of Tennessee in July 2006 after completing his fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Missouri.
His clinical practice and academic efforts focus on the areas of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He presents and teaches extensively both regionally and internationally on the topics of acid reflux, colonic disease and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Mancini has numerous publications to his credit in medical literature and actively participates in basic science and clinical research.
Matthew L. Mancini, MD
Dr. Matthew Mancini received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from Mercer University in 1994.
He completed his general surgery residency in 1999 and soon after joined the faculty as assistant professor of Surgery at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Mancini was promoted to associate professor of Surgery in 2007.
Dr. Mancini is certified by the American Board of Surgery, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and he is involved in many surgical societies that promote education and surgical innovation.
He was recently elected to the board of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine.
