Have you or someone you know been diagnosed as pre-diabetic or diabetic? If so, the medical center is offering FREE DiabetesClasses at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

Diabetes is a chronic (long-term) condition marked by abnormally high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. According to theNational Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), diabetes affects 25.8 million Americans. While an estimated 18.8 million have been diagnosed with diabetes (both type 1 and type 2), unfortunately, 7 million people (or nearly one third) are unaware that they have type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize diabetes as the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S.
