Pharmacy Residency Staff

 

Shaunta’ M. Ray, Pharm.D., BCPS
Program Director, Pharmacy Residency in Pharmacotherapy (24-month program)

Dr. Ray is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Knoxville Campus. She practices in inpatient and outpatient Family Medicine with University Family Physicians at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Dr. Ray received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2004. She completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency and an Internal Medicine Specialty Residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and OU Medical Center. Dr. Ray is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and serves as the Pharmacotherapy Residency Director at The University of Tennessee Medical Center. She is a member of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy editorial board and serves as a reviewer for other pharmacy and medical journals.

Dr. Ray’s areas of interest include heart failure, asthma, COPD, Family Medicine and pharmacy resident education.



Sarah T. Nordmeyer, Pharm.D., BCPS
Program Director, PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Internal Medicine

Dr. Nordmeyer is originally from Avon Lake, Ohio and received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2006 from Butler University. After graduation, Dr. Nordmeyer completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The University of Tennessee Medical Center. She then pursued specialized residency training and completed a PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Internal Medicine at Clarian Health Partners & Butler University in Indianapolis. During her PGY2 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Nordmeyer also completed the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program. She currently practices as an Internal Medicine Pharmacist Specialist and works with the House Staff Medicine Teams. She is the Program Director for the PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Internal Medicine and also serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. In her free time, Dr. Nordmeyer enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors.

 

Shauna Winters, Pharm.D.
Program Director, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
Dr. Winters is a Pharmacy Specialist in Critical Care Medicine with the Department of Pharmacy at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.  Also, she is an Assistant Professor with The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.  Her primary practice area is in the Medical Critical Care Unit at UT Medical Center.

Dr. Winters received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Shenandoah University in 2006.  She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC.  She then went on to complete a PGY2 Residency in Internal Medicine at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.  Upon completion of residency, Dr. Winters stayed on staff at UT Medical Center as the nightshift Clinical Specialist.  After three years of nightshift, she then transitioned into Critical Care Medicine and PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Director.  Her professional interests include internal medicine, emergency medicine, precepting students, and enhancing pharmacy resident education.   In her spare time, Dr. Winters enjoys expanding her adventurous culinary repertoire in the kitchen, reading, and relaxing with her feisty Brittany Spaniel, Shasta.



Barbara Eve Faircloth, Pharm.D., BCPS     
Program Director, PGY2 Critical Care Residency

Dr. Faircloth is the Assistant Director in the Department of Pharmacy at The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC). Also, she is an Assistant Professor with The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. Her primary practice area is in the Medical Critical Care Unit at UTMC.

Dr. Faircloth was born and bred in the lovely state of New Jersey where she received her Bachelor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Rutgers University College of Pharmacy in May 1997. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Residency at UTMC. Dr. Faircloth is the PGY2 Critical Care Residency Program Director at UTMC.

In addition to her commitments to patient care and furthering the education of the future of our profession, Dr. Faircloth is a wife and mother of two wonderful boys.

PGY1 Residents

John Robert (J.R.) Yates, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Yates is originally from Kingsport, Tennessee.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.  His professional interests include critical care, infectious disease, and internal medicine.  In the future, Dr. Yates hopes to obtain a clinical position and serve as an adjunct faculty member with a college of pharmacy.  In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, church activities, UT sports, and fly fishing.

Kathleen Maloney, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Maloney is originally from Morgantown, WV and completed her pharmacy degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She is currently completing a PGY1 year in pharmacy practice. Her professional areas of interest include Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Cardiology, and Geriatrics. Her long term goals are to become a clinical specialist at a large teaching institution, and to help train future generations of pharmacists. In her free time she enjoys working out, cooking, movies, reading, college sports, and the great outdoors.

Phil Lee, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Lee is originally from Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his bachelor's degree in Business Management and Accounting at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee. After a brief career in sales and finance, Dr. Lee decided to return to school to pursue his true passion, Pharmacy. Dr. Lee completed his Pharm.D. at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center on the Knoxville campus. His current practice interests include Internal Medicine and Academia. In his free time, Dr. Lee enjoys playing sports, outdoor activities, and attending sporting events. A lifelong Tennessean, Dr. Lee is a proud to be a Tennessee Vol.

James Wheeler, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacotherapy Resident
Dr. Wheeler grew up in nearby Chattanooga, TN and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.  He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in May 2011. Currently, he is the PGY1 Pharmacotherapy resident and after completing the two year program, Dr. Wheeler hopes to join the faculty at a college of pharmacy. His professional interests include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Care, and of course academia. In his free time, he enjoys college football, tailgating, live music, and attending pharmacy conventions. His cooking skills are somewhat limited and therefore you will find him eating out at many of Knoxville’s fine restaurants.

Rachel Garonce, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Garonce is originally from Montreal, Canada and raised in Coral Springs, Fl. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Florida State University and received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University. Her professional interests include Oncology, Infectious Diseases, and Critical Care. Her long-term goals are to complete a PGY2 and become a clinical specialist who also serves as an adjunct faculty member at a College of Pharmacy. In her spare time, Dr. Garonce enjoys road biking, working out, cooking, traveling, live music, and college football.

Laura Krumenacker, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Krumenacker is originally from Carrolltown, Pennsylvania. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in May 2011.  Dr. Krumenacker’s clinical areas of interest include critical care, infectious disease, and emergency medicine. She plans to pursue a PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency in Critical Care. Dr. Krumenacker’s career goals are to obtain a clinical pharmacist position at an academic medical center and to serve as an adjunct faculty member in a College of Pharmacy. In her free time, she enjoys running, music, and spending time with friends and family.

Adam Furr, Pharm.D.
PGY1 Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Furr is originally from Albemarle, North Carolina.  He completed undergraduate studies and Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Wingate University School of Pharmacy.  His professional interest areas include internal medicine, cardiology, and academia.  His future interests include obtaining a clinical pharmacist position and possibly serve as faculty at a College of Pharmacy.  In his free time he enjoys traveling, cooking, reading and playing golf.


PGY2 Residents

Danielle Tice, Pharm.D.
PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Tice is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The South Carolina College of Pharmacy in May 2010. Her clinical interests include Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and academia, and she is looking forward to completing her PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Internal Medicine.  Dr. Tice’s future goals include obtaining a clinical pharmacist position at an academic medical center and serving as an adjunct faculty member with a college of pharmacy.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, working out, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Tice is grateful for the continued support from her family, friends, mentors, preceptors, and the patients she has encountered for making a difference in her life.

Megan Brockman, Pharm.D.
PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Brockman is originally from Clarinda, Iowa and completed her undergraduate work and Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Iowa. She completed her PGY1 residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is looking forward to completing her PGY2 in Internal Medicine.  Her professional interests include Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease and Academia, and hopes to obtain a clinical faculty position at a college of pharmacy. In her free time, Dr. Brockman enjoys running, trivia, refining her culinary skills, and baking delectable desserts.  Go Hawks!

Robert (Bobby) Helmer, Pharm.D.
PGY2 Pharmacotherapy and Chief Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Helmer is originally from Columbia, SC.  He completed his undergraduate work at the College of Charleston, followed by his Pharm.D. at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.  He is the inaugural resident in the 24-month pharmacotherapy residency program at the UT Medical Center. In the future, Dr. Helmer hopes to pursue a clinical faculty position at an academic medical center and college of pharmacy and work towards his BCPS. Dr. Helmer’s professional interests include family medicine, infectious disease, academia, patient education, and neurology. In his spare time, he enjoys team trivia with his fellow nerds, cycling, movies, and reading.

Douglas (Doug) R. Wylie, Pharm.D.
PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident
Dr. Wylie is from Augusta, Georgia and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University in Atlanta. He completed his PGY1 training at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.  Dr. Wylie’s career interests include trauma, critical care, and emergency medicine. His future goals include obtaining a clinical pharmacist position at a Level I Trauma Center and serve as an adjunct faculty member with a College of Pharmacy. Dr. Wylie enjoys playing and watching sports, playing trivia, and watching movies.
