The Center for Women & Children's Health is a hub for supporting women's and children's individual healthcare needs. The center provides support, research and unmatched patient-centered care.
Emergency and Trauma Services is the only Level I Trauma Center in the area and serves as the tertiary referral center for medical care in East Tennessee, serving Knox County and 21 surrounding counties.
The Heart Lung Vascular Institute brings together expertise in clinical care, teaching and research. Patients receive exceptional healthcare combined with patient-centered care.

VSU is an 18-bed intermediate care unit specializing in the care of patients with vascular disorders or disease. Invasive monitoring and telemetry are available for patients undergoing surgical interventions such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy or peripheral vascular bypass surgery. A multidisciplinary team, including patients and family, work together to promote recovery and the return to optimal health. Sandra Webb, BS, RN is the nurse manager for the unit.
CCVU, a 30-bed telemetry unit, offers patients the most up-to-date treatments and innovations in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery procedures available. Serving as a step down unit for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, CCVU provides collaborative care for the following.
Other post surgical cardiovascular and thoracic procedures patients, as well as other monitored patients requiring cardiac diagnostic test, treatments, infusions and observation are admitted to this unit. Jada Bates, BSN, RN, is the nurse manager for this area.
Medical Cardiology, a 30-bed unit, is dedicated to the care of patients with coronary artery disease requiring medical management and/or interventional treatment. Our patients require acute nursing care, including ongoing assessment, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition and medication administration. Some frequent diagnoses admitted to Medical Cardiology include the following.
The nursing staff maintains a close relationship with the Cardiac Catheterization Center in order to accommodate the increasing volume of patients undergoing procedures requiring extended observation. A multidisciplinary approach, including care management, clinical nutrition, pharmacy and cardiac rehabilitation, helps to plan for discharge in this population who often are hospitalized less than 24 hours. This 30-bed, telemetry step down unit consists predominately of patients with respiratory diseases. Patients on this floor are presented with a wide range of medical pathophysiology including the following.
The multidisciplinary team of 9 East consists of a nurse manager, professional registered nursing staff, clinical pharmacist, respiratory therapist, clinical dietitian, care manager and physical therapist. The cohesion of this team creates a stimulating atmosphere with focus on education, discharge planning and preventative care. These team members are committed to maintaining optimal patient outcomes.
