A. A key consideration may be insurance carrier reimbursement. Evaluations are ordered by your physician through the UT Sleep Disorders Center at 305-8761. Doctors at the UT Sleep Disorders Center have training specific to sleep disorders. Many insurance carriers have special requirements before testing can begin. This also applies to treatment, which can become expensive.
A. Wash your hair and scalp, but do not use any conditioner, hair gel or hair spray. Bring comfortable pajamas. Showers are available, so bring your favorite toiletries.
A. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which the sleeper stops breathing for periods of up to two minutes, caused by obstructions to the movement of air in the upper respiratory passages. Sleep apnea is potentially a life-threatening condition that can cause or contribute to heart attacks, strokes, impotence, high blood pressure and heart disease.
