Critical Care Units
Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units are two of the six specialized critical care units at UT Medical Center. Patients needing constant comprehensive nursing care are admitted to these units. Both of these areas are under the leadership of Nurse Manager Jan Preston, MSN, RN, and are located on 2 South. Regular visiting hours are at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., but every effort will be made to accommodate individual needs while maintaining optimal patient care.
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 10-bed adult critical care unit consisting predominately of patients who have undergone open heart surgery (both CABG and valve), aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypasses and other post-surgical cardiac and vascular procedures requiring intensive hemodynamic monitoring and nursing observation.
The majority of CVICU patients require short intensive care stays of less than 24 hours. Most patients are discharged to monitored step down nursing areas for further evaluation.
The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit specializing in medical cardiology. Nursing personnel use up-to-date care and interventions to meet the challenge of caring for cardiac patients.
