    Skin Cancer Risks and Signs

May is National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. It has been estimated that nearly half of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop skin cancer at least once.

    Allergy and Asthma

This spring, more than 50 million Americans will suffer from allergies and another 20 million from asthma. Knoxville was ranked sixth of the top cities with the worst allergens.

    Osteoporosis: Our Silent Bone Disease

Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease and is a silent process that steals bone strength by thinning and weakening them as we age. The good news is that it easily can be prevented and reversed with early treatment.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer

The recent death of actress singer Dana Reeve, actor Christopher Reeve’s widow, has focused attention on the alarming increase of lung cancer among women. For every woman who succumbs to breast cancer nearly two die from lung cancer.

Early Hearing Loss Identification Gives Hope

UT Medical Center began its hearing screening program more than a decade ago because the importance of early identification and treatment of patients with hearing loss was clearly understood, which has certainly made a difference for five-year-old Leah Hall.
