Healthy Living
September 2006
September and October are busy health months. There are many opportunities to become involved not only in your own health, but in raising awareness of good health for other people. Some highlights include prostate screenings in observance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month (September), Heart Healthy Cooking Classes (September), the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk (October) and Komen Race for the Cure in line with Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).

Take some time in the upcoming months to get involved—for yourself or for someone you love—and get on your way to healthy living.

Best Wishes,

  • Best Tools for Prostate Cancer Detection

The prostate specific antigen test has become the standard tool in screening for early detection and prevention in prostate cancer. In fact, there was a 42 percent decrease in death rates in men in the 1980s and 1990s since the development of the PSA test.

    Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare cancer that can spread very rapidly to other parts of the body. The existence of this serious form of cancer is not new, although a recent report suggests incidence may be increasing.

Mini-Maze: Minimizing Risks of Atrial Fibrillation Surgery

A revolutionary new type of minimally invasive surgery brings hope to atrial fibrillation patients for whom no reasonable cure existed previously. The new procedure can correct atrial fibrillation, helps patients return to normal activity more quickly after the procedure and patients note less pain than with the traditional approach.

    Back to School Immunizations

It is your responsibility to protect your child and get him the immunizations to help him live a healthy life. Updated immunization shots will be required in order to begin class.
