You will have to check with your insurance provider. However, in most cases the following applies.

  • Fecal Occult Blood Test—Covered by Medicare and most private insurers annually.
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy—Medicare and many private insurers will pay every four to five years.
  • Colonoscopy—Medicare and most private insurers pay for this test for screening for high-risk patients. Medicare will pay for average-risk patients. Medicare will pay for average-risk individuals without symptoms every 10 years with some exceptions.

Other insurance companies gradually are adding coverage for screening colonoscopy but, unfortunately, some do not cover the procedure. For this reason, you may be asked to sign a waiver that states you will be financially responsible for the bill I your insurance will not pay.

You do not require a consultation and most insurance will not pay for an office visit if you are not having symptoms.

All you need to do is fill out the patient information sheet, screening questionnaire and give us a copy of your insurance cards. A nurse will make an appointment for you and provide your instructions. Forms can be faxed or mailed to you (or download forms).
