UT Medical Center's Heartwise Offers Screenings and Cooking Demonstration

The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s HeartWise event is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 7:30 a.m. – noon in the medical center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute. At HeartWise, UT Medical Center physicians, nurses and other health professionals will offer free and discounted cardiovascular health screenings and a cooking demonstration.
Those age 50 and older, or with a family history of heart disease are encouraged to participate in the health screenings offered during the event. The screenings include:
- Comprehensive Cardiovascular Risk Assessment -cholesterol/glucose testing, carotid and AAA ultrasound evaluation and EKG. Cost is $35. Fasting is required for this screening
- Cardiac Calcium Scoring – cost is $99
- COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Screening - free screening
From 9 – 10 a.m., the Healthy Living Kitchen team will offer tips on starting your day with a healthy breakfast and teach you how to create a delicious and nutritious morning burrito with guest chef Dr. Jeff Johnson, a cardiologist.
