V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! Stop feeling defeated! Why not make this fall a winning season for your heart? Let the Healthy Living Kitchen lighten up your tailgate menu this football season.
Tailgaters across the country will be faced with dips, fatty steaks, bacon cheeseburgers, sausages, chips, beer and mayonnaise-based salads. Grazing throughout the game will replace small, well-portioned meals. Now is the time to pass on the traditional tailgating fare and introduce healthy alternatives to your next game menu.
The next cooking class is Thursday, Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s East Pavilion, weather permitting. The cost is $20 and includes a meal, cooking instruction and tips and education.
Attendees will receive instruction and tips on how to make your tailgating party healthy from Chef Monty Lowans, executive chef of UT Medical Center’s AllSpice Café. Keep score of your tailgating calories and learn tips that make your next tailgate delicious and nutritious.
“We’re giving Vol fans a chance to learn how to party hearty for the big game without super-sizing their waistlines,” said Jane Kelly, a registered nurse with UT Medical Center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute who helps teach the Healthy Living Kitchen cooking classes. “The typical tailgate party is loaded with unhealthy food choices. We just want to show people that on game day they can easily make delicious treats that also are healthier options.”
The last class sold out, so don’t wait! Advance registration of $20 includes education and meal. Make your reservation now by calling 865.544.6877.
