Screening Mammograms in Lafollette

UT Internal Medicine – Lafollette will host the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Mobile Mammography Unit 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. The Mobile Mammography Unit will be parked in the CVS parking lot next door to the Internal Medicine office located at 106 Virgil Lane. Staff with the medical center’s University Breast Center will provide screening mammograms.

The screenings are open to all women age 40 or older, except for those with implants or current breast problems such as lumps, pain, discharge, burning or history of breast cancer. Call 865.544.9069 to make an appointment or for more information about insurance, costs or services.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women. The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram (X-ray of the breast) and a clinical breast exam every year. Detecting breast cancer at an early stage greatly improves chances of survival.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 581-bed, not-for-profit academic medical center, which serves as a referral center for Eastern Tennessee, Southeast Kentucky and Western North Carolina. The medical center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, is one of the largest employers in Knoxville.
