The Center for Women & Children's Health is a hub for supporting women's and children's individual healthcare needs. The center provides support, research and unmatched patient-centered care.
Emergency and Trauma Services is the only Level I Trauma Center in the area and serves as the tertiary referral center for medical care in East Tennessee, serving Knox County and 21 surrounding counties.
The Heart Lung Vascular Institute brings together expertise in clinical care, teaching and research. Patients receive exceptional healthcare combined with patient-centered care.

New leadership appointments also made during third-quarter board meeting
Bernard E. Bernstein, chairman of the University Health System, Inc. (UHS) board of directors, and his fellow board members unanimously voted to appoint Carolyn Fairbank Biggs as the newest member of the prestigious entity. The 15-member board of directors serves as governing body of The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Additional appointments made at the September board meeting include the following.
The new appointments take effect immediately. Fairbank Biggs’ first meeting as a board member is set for the board of directors’ scheduled meeting in December.
Other members of the distinguished body include Michael Blackwell, Sylvia S. Davis, Dr. Robert Elder, Dr. Michael Freeman, James A. Haslam, II, Dr. Joseph E. Johnson, Joseph R. Landsman, Jr., Dr. Pat Wall, Dr. John Petersen and H.W. ‘Bud’ Sherrod, Jr.
