UT Medical Center Earns Prestigious Breast Imaging Distinction

The University of Tennessee Medical Center earned the prestigious Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Distinction from the American College of Radiology. Of the 190 mammography providers in Tennessee, UT Medical Center is the only facility in Knoxville and one of just three in Tennessee to earn this accolade. 

“It is a tremendous honor to earn recognition as a center of excellence by the American College of Radiology,” said Vanessa Bramble, director of radiology at UT Medical Center. “The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Distinction is a result of the hard work done by our detail-oriented staff members and physicians within our Radiology Department. Our staff members are committed to excellence in patient care as it relates to imaging, and they’ve now been recognized for that at a national level. I’m extremely proud of them.”

In order to be considered for the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Distinction, a facility must demonstrate excellence in breast imaging by successfully achieving accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Along with this honor, The University of Tennessee Medical Center also achieved accreditation from the American College of Radiology in MRI, CT, PET-CT and Ultrasound.

Accreditation through the American College of Radiology is a rigorous and voluntary process that ensures that the facility meets nationally accepted standards. It ensures that personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret the medical images and to administer radiation therapy treatments. Accreditation also ensures that the equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment being given and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.
