Food Donations Encouraged at UT Medical Center to Help Fight Hunger

The Food Drive was such a success and Second Harvest still needs help, so we are continuing the food drive from Nov. 12 through Nov. 16.

It doesn’t happen just during the holidays. Far too many people suffer from hunger and poverty. The University of Tennessee Medical Center is teaming up with the Second Harvest Foodbank to accept donations during its food drive Nov. 12 through Nov. 16.

Local statistics tell the story of hunger and poverty in the community.

  • 73, 085 people are at risk of hunger
  • 13.73% of the population lives in poverty
  • 3, 837, 657 meals were distributed in the county last year
  • 26 Kids Café sites are active, helping 1, 199 kids
  • 110 partner agencies distribute food in the county
  • 9 Mobile Pantry sites are active in the county

Items the Second Harvest Foodbank is in need of the most including the following.

  • Peanut Butter
  • Tuna and other canned meats
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Canned vegetables and fruit
  • Soup

Whether it is hot or cold, rain or shine, there always is a need to feed those that are hungry. Please help support the Second Harvest Foodbank by donating food in the designated bins that will be located throughout the hospital during the food drive.
