Employees Donate to Supporting Patient Care, Education and Research at UT Medical Center

Employees at The University of Tennessee Medical Center and the UT Graduate School of Medicine set a record as they donated $200,000 of their own money to support the mission of the medical center and graduate school of medicine. The contributions, part of the annual Torch campaign at the region’s only academic medical center, will be used to improving the quality of life of the patients served at UT Medical Center through patient care, medical education and clinical research.

“This is a great day for the future of medicine,” said Rachel Greene, director of annual giving for UT Medical Center and the UT Graduate School of Medicine. “Because the employees at UT Medical Center and the UT Graduate School of Medicine recognize they, along with their colleagues, can make a difference in treating the medical needs that exist today and that will exist in the future in our community, they contributed more than they ever have toward furthering that mission. Every dollar donated by employees will be used to benefit the community through research, education and patient care at the medical center and graduate school of medicine.”

The University of Tennessee Medical Center and the UT Graduate School of Medicine have embarked on a groundbreaking campaign to raise more than $50 million for the people of Tennessee. Campaign initiatives will support the creation of advanced, patient-focused facilities that not only will improve patient care, but also healthcare practice. In addition, the campaign will cultivate support for our nationally renowned medical education programs and our innovative research making pioneering discoveries into the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of some of our most devastating diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. It is to this goal that UT Medical Center pledges its dedication to the people of Tennessee and creating a healthier tomorrow for the community today.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 581-bed, not-for-profit academic medical center, which serves as a referral center for Eastern Tennessee, Southeast Kentucky and Western North Carolina. The Medical Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, is one of the largest employers in Knoxville.
