Meet the Cancer Institute Social Worker

The University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute’s multidisciplinary team includes a social worker, who is able to provide counseling and support to patients with cancer as well as their caregivers. Being diagnosed with cancer can take an emotional toll on everyone involved, leading to increased distress for patients and families.

In addition to counseling, the social worker can provide assistance with financial concerns, insurance and other community resources. The social worker also is available to help with advanced directives as well as notarize documents as needed.

As an enhanced service to our patients, their family members and friends, Teri Green (the Cancer Institute’s Licensed Clinical Social Worker) will host a new webpage, focused on the issues patients with cancer encounter. Included on the webpage will be information on resources to assist patients and caregivers as well as coping strategies for the diagnosis of cancer.

The webpage is a link for patients and families to find answers and guidance. When people are diagnosed with cancer, they need to know they are not alone on this journey. Our social worker and staff are available to support you and your family.

We look forward to providing this new service and welcome any questions or topics of interest. The Cancer Institute Social Worker can be reached by e-mail at tagreen@utmck.edu or telephone (865.305.6154).
