UT Medical Center Announces 2008 Nurse Excellence Award Winners

In conjunction with National Nurses Week May 6 – 12, The University of Tennessee Medical Center recognized several of its top leaders in the professional practice of nursing through the 2008 Nurse Excellence Awards. In all, 17 nurses from the medical center earned recognition.

“It’s very telling when your colleagues can step back, evaluate your work and decide that you are a recognized leader in your profession,” said Janell Cecil, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at UT Medical Center. “Especially in the demanding profession of nursing, it takes a truly skilled, compassionate and hard working individual to stand out and be recognized for this type of an award. These nurses consistently provide outstanding care to our patients and they are very deserving of the 2008 Nurse Excellence award.”

The award winning nurses were nominated by their peers and recognized by physicians, leadership and fellow nurses at the medical center during a special ceremony. Wendy Franklin, MSN, RN, CCRN, of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute won the Educator award, while Kelsey Dawson, ADN, RN, of the Neuro/Stroke Unit earned the Novice award.
