May is Better Speech and Hearing Month. Millions of infants, children and adults suffer from a communication or swallowing disorder. A person’s ability to interact with others and to be independent and safe can be affected when there is difficulty with hearing, balance, speaking or swallowing.
This annual event provides opportunities to raise awareness about communication disorders and to promote treatment that can improve the quality of life for those who experience problems with speaking, understanding or hearing.
Speech-Language Pathologists are committed to assisting individuals achieve optimal communication and swallowing function. Evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders are provided for all ages, from birth through geriatrics. Depending on the individual’s level of impairment, emphasis may be on establishing or restoring behaviors, or on developing compensatory strategies.
Audiology Services assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with hearing and inner ear related difficulties. A full range of services are provided in order to assess hearing sensitivity, auditory processing abilities and balance function.
