2008 National Cancer Survivor Day Celebrates Life

Mark your calendars for “Celebrating Life” in observance of National Cancer Survivors Day, Sunday, June 1, starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Cancer Institute. Six years ago, the Cancer Institute at the University of Tennessee Medical Center hosted its first special celebration for cancer survivors, family and friends in honor of cancer survivors who are living with and beyond cancer. On this day, we will observe Celebrating Life 2008 with 700 cancer survivor friends and families.

Celebrating Life is Knoxville’s only locally recognized event in conjunction with National Cancer Survivors Day. National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries. Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.

There are more than 12 million Americans who have faced cancer and are alive today. This day was initiated to recognize survivors as well as those that were instrumental in helping them win their battles.

Guests will enjoy live entertainment, food, door prizes and have a chance to visit informational and educational booths. Back by popular demand, That Girl Band will provide spirited bluegrass music. But most of all, everyone will be treated to a grand time!

Any cancer survivor wishing to join in the celebration should RSVP to 865.544.6055 or register online by Tuesday, May 27.
