Lisa McCarty Kennedy Oncology Nursing Merit Education Award Honors Two RNs

Lisa McCarty Kennedy was a loving wife and an adoring involved mother. Lisa was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1992. She bravely and gracefully battled her cancer for two years. Hers was not a long life in terms of years but it was a life well lived.

To honor her memory, Lisa’s family and friends created the Lisa McCarty Kennedy Oncology Nursing Merit Education Award within the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine at UT Medical Center.

This year's winners are Shanna Overbey, RN, BSN, and Cindy Hansard, RN, OCN.

This annual award is provided to an outstanding Medical Center nursing staff professional who is involved with caring for cancer patients and exhibits:

  • Excellence in providing compassionate patient care
  • Dedication to acquiring knowledge resulting in improved patient care
  • A positive role model for colleagues, patients and their families

Recipients of the award receive a financial stipend to be applied toward furthering their oncology nursing education.
