at UT Medical Center.

Pharmacy Week is October 19 – 25! It is the perfect opportunity to recognize our PHARMACY TEAM for their hard work and dedication.

Please take this week to acknowledge and celebrate the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s pharmacy staff for its commitment and contribution to patient care and safe medication use practices. Every member of the pharmacy team plays an invaluable role in ensuring the highest quality of pharmaceutical care for our patients.

Our pharmacy team consists of many clinical pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians and other staff who all contribute to successfully carrying out the organization’s mission and vision. The integrated pharmacy practice model allows each patient to receive all aspects of pharmaceutical care from a devoted and highly trained clinical pharmacist. In addition to doctoral degrees, nearly 75% of our pharmacists have received post graduate residency training, and more than a third have become board certified pharmacotherapy specialists. Our pharmacists also are committed to advancing our mission for education by training pharmacy students, residents and other members of the healthcare team.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work along side these other disciplines to ensure appropriate medication therapy and safe medication practices.

The Department of Pharmacy has a mission and vision that highlights opportunities to develop advancements in pharmacy practice.

  • Department of Pharmacy Vision - As part of The University of Tennessee Medical Center and College of Pharmacy, our vision is to be the recognized leader in advancing optimal medication use and pharmacy practice in our region and beyond.
  • Department of Pharmacy Mission - The Department of Pharmacy operates to ensure positive drug therapy outcomes for our patients and contribute to achieving the objectives of the medical center by
       - Ensuring safe and effective use of medications through integration of multiple disciplines
       - Attracting and retaining highly qualified and motivated staff
       - Educating and developing future leaders in pharmacy and other healthcare professions
       - Affecting change through practice-based research

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at UT Medical Center work to improve patient care and medication safety as part of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. The medical center would like to extend its sincere appreciation to these important members of our team!
