Healthy Living Kitchen Team Presents Successful Program to Nutrition Conference
Published: Monday, December 15, 2008

Janet Seiber, RD, LDN; Jane Kelly, BSN, RN; and Virginia Turner, MS, RD, LDN, recently attended a national nutrition conference to present an abstract on the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Healthy Living Kitchen. The annual American Dietetic Association’s Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo was held in Chicago, October 25 to 28.
The abstract was presented during the Original Contribution: Strategies for Lifestyle Change – Heart Health segment. The presentation was titled “The Healthy Living Kitchen: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Heart Smart Cooking.”
The Healthy Living Kitchen was established in 2006 as a program to teach heart healthy cooking techniques to the East Tennessee community. The multidisciplinary approach utilizing the skill sets of a chef, registered dietitian and registered nurse makes this a unique and successful endeavor. The program now includes cooking classes, healthy grocery shopping tours and interactive displays on nutrition topics in various community settings with a sponsorship from Kroger.
