Event date: Aug. 29
THE MAN RUN, taking place on Aug. 29, seeks to bring men, women and families through the community together to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the benefits of screening and early detection. One in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. As fall fast approaches, we honor prostate cancer awareness month in September. Join us for the second annual THE MAN RUN.
All proceeds raised will support free prostate cancer screenings and education in East Tennessee. Last year alone, we were able to provide more than 400 free prostate cancer screenings. An event for all men, women and families, The Man Run is a 5K run/1-mile fun run/walk set for Saturday, Aug. 29 at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Participants can either register for the 5K Race beginning at 8 a.m. or a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk beginning at 8:10 a.m.
Often prostate cancer will have no symptoms at all. With testing, it can be detected long before any of these prostate cancer symptoms appear.
Starting at the age of 50, men should be screened for prostate cancer or earlier if they are African American or have a family history of prostate cancer. There are some men's check-up guidelines, however, that men can follow to detect prostate cancer early. Read Ken Wilson’s story about surviving with advanced prostate cancer.
