Everything you eat affects your body and how you feel. When fall starts moving in, we start to turn to grandma’s home cooking recipes to remove the chill from the cooler fall days. To help better prepare you for the months ahead, the next cooking class will feature fall recipes with a heart-healthy makeover.
Back to the Basics of Heart Healthy Eating will be presented on Sept. 18 at 12 noon in the Heart Lung Vascular Institute’s education room at UT Medical Center. You may register through our secure online form.
“Understanding the basics of heart health is important for everyone, as they can help people reduce fat content in their diet, which can help improve cholesterol levels and overall heart health,” said Jane Kelly, RN, BSN, cardiac nurse specialist with the medical center’s Healthy Living Kitchen team. “During this interactive class, those attending will learn how to make healthier modifications to some of their favorite recipes and be treated to a flavor of autumn spices, fruits and vegetables.”
During the Back to the Basics class, the Healthy Living Kitchen team will discuss fall comfort foods and some of the basic principles of heart healthy cooking and eating. The classes taught by the Healthy Living Kitchen team, a part of UT Medical Center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute, consists of Senior Executive Chef Mark McKinney; Cardiac Nurse Specialist Jane Kelly, BSN, RN; and Dietitian Janet Seiber, RD.
Lunch and education is included in the registration cost of $20.
