Buddy Fain Named Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Buddy Fain was named vice president and chief information officer of The University of Tennessee Medical Center. In this role, Fain will provide executive leadership for the development and management of information, information resources and technologies to support and enable the mission and strategic goals of University Health System Inc. and its partners. He will lead and direct the department of Information Systems and department of Medical Records and Transcription Services.

“Buddy Fain is an outstanding member of the management team at The University of Tennessee Medical Center," said Tom Fisher, chief financial officer at the medical center. "In 1984, he was named the first director of Information Systems and put into operation the medical center's first hospital information system. With his leadership, we have had many successful financial and clinical system implementations over the last 10 years. Further, we developed a 5-year IS plan, and execution of this plan has resulted in major progress toward the automation of our clinical processes and moving us forward in implementing a fully automated electronic record."

Fain has been with the medical center for 31 years. He holds a BS and MBA from The University of Tennessee. He is a member of Hospital Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). He is a member of the Board of Directors for Innovation Valley Health Information Network.
