UT Medical Center recognized as one of nation's 100 most wired hospitals

The University of Tennessee Medical Center has earned national recognition as one of the 100 Most Wired Hospitals. The Most Wired list appears in the July edition of Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine, a publication of the American Hospital Association.

“What I find most rewarding about this recognition is that it is not about the sheer number of information systems,” said Buddy Fain, vice president and chief information officer at UT Medical Center. “It is more about effective implementation and use of these systems to support and improve patient care and administrative processes.”

Hospitals and health systems earn recognition on the 100 Most Wired Hospitals list through an annual survey by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The survey focuses on how hospitals utilize information technology for public health and safety, customer service, quality, business processes and workforce matters.

This is the third year of inclusion on the list for UT Medical Center.

“This award would not have been possible without the exceptional technical and clinical staff in Information Systems at The University of Tennessee Medical Center and the many clinical and administrative staff that teamed with IS to successfully implement some of the most advanced systems in the nation,” Fain said. “Several years ago we developed a multi-year IS plan in collaboration with our physician, clinical and administrative leadership as well as our board of directors. That input and support has been instrumental as we move toward a fully electronic medical record and computerized provider order entry.”
