Approximately 100,000 people gathered to watch what is known as the nation’s “earliest Independence Day parade” of the year in Gatlinburg because it begins at midnight. This year’s parade also celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In recognition of the anniversary, the parade featured a recreation of the motorcade that brought Franklin Roosevelt to the park for the dedication ceremony.
Earlier in the day, chairs began lining the street for a close up view of the floats, helium balloons, banners, motorcycles and much more. The University of Tennessee Medical Center had 65 employees,
family members and friends participate with the helium balloons, floats and banners.
The annual parade recognizes our nation’s military men and women and celebrates our country’s freedom. Each year, UT Medical Center sends volunteers to participate in the festivities.
