The Knoxville 100 Health Expo, Your Health is in Your Hands, is a community-wide health fair where free health screenings and health information will be provided at multiple locations for those who need it the most. The annual event, 8 a.m. – 12 Noon on Saturday, March 13 at four churches in Knoxville, was created by 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville, Inc. and is sponsored by The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Community Trust, Mercy Health Partners, Cherokee Health Systems, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Knox County Health Department and Volunteer State Health Care.
“Our goal for the Knoxville 100 Health Expo is to improve the health of individuals throughout our community,” said Frank Harp, health and wellness chair of 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville. “The health expo provides a great opportunity for every person in this community to receive the health screenings and health information they need. This is the chance for people who haven’t been to a doctor in a long time to come, free of charge, and begin looking after their health.”
This is the third annual Knoxville 100 Health Expo, Your Health is in Your Hands, event. Harp emphasizes that the success of the event is due to the teamwork and commitment to community health by 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville and the multiple health systems, health providers and churches in Knoxville participating in the event.
“Through the Your Health is in Your Hands health expo, we really want to reach out to the uninsured and medically underserved in the Knoxville community,” said Ben Lewis, a chaplain at UT Medical Center. “There are four locations to choose from, so we hope that makes it as convenient as possible for those in need of these important health screenings who have limited access to transportation. We know the churches offer a friendly, comfortable environment for folks, so we want as many people as possible to come out and receive the services they need and begin taking charge of their health.”
Light refreshments will be available, and drawings for gift cards will be held at each location. Health screenings and information during The Knoxville 100 Health Expo, Your Health is in Your Hands, will be available at the following churches.
