Congratulations to Ruth Borden, RN and Sandra Shelton RN, recipients of the 2010 Lisa McCarty Kennedy Oncology Nursing Merit Education Award.
Lisa McCarty Kennedy was diagnosed with lymphoma and bravely battled her cancer for two years. She was loved by her family and friends and to honor her memory, they created the Lisa McCarty Kennedy Oncology Nursing Merit Education Award within the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine at UT Medical Center. This annual award is provided to an outstanding Medical Center nursing staff professional who is involved with caring for cancer patients and exhibits
Ruth and Sandra were nominated by their peers, and together, have over 50 years in oncology nursing.
Lisa McCarty Kennedy was the niece of Dr. Richard A. Obenour, Professor, Department of Medicine. Dr. Obenour honored Ruth and Sandra, as there names were added to the plaque of all past recipients of the Lisa McCarty Kennedy Oncology Nursing Merit Education Award. They were also awarded $1000.00 towards furthering their oncology nursing education.
