Cancer Institute volunteers honored during National Volunteer Appreciation Week
Published: Thursday, June 3, 2010

During National Volunteer Appreciation Week, University of Tenenssee Medical Center's Cancer Institute volunteers were treated to a luncheon in recognition of their time and commitment to helping others. More than 15 volunteers provide the Cancer Institute patients, families and friends with support and comfort during their treatment.
Volunteers assist with providing beverages, snacks and warm blankets to patients in the chemotherapy room, greet new patients and play soothing music in the Cancer Institute lobby.

"Our physicians and staff are so grateful for the volunteers who are part of our team," said Renee Hawk, vice president of the Cancer Institute. "We cannot thank them enough for their donated time and, most importantly, the compassionate supporting care they provide to our patients and families."
