Emergency and Trauma Services is the only Level I Trauma Center in the area and serves as the tertiary referral center for medical care in East Tennessee, serving Knox County and 21 surrounding counties.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute is the only hospital in Knoxville to receive the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Silver Award.
A reception was held on Aug. 24 and representatives from the American Heart Association (AHA) were at the University of Tennessee Medical Center to present the Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Silver Award to the Heart Lung Vascular Institute. Recipients of the Silver Award have demonstrated 1 year of compliance in at least 85% of all eligible heart measures.

On hand to present the award from AHA were Mary Robichaux, vice president of Quality Initiatives for the Southeast Region, and Kim Nickels, director for Quality Improvement Initiatives. Drs. John Mack and Bret Rogers received the award on behalf of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute.
Other’s in attendance at the reception included Teresa Levey, vice president for the Heart Lung Vascular Institute; Dr. John Lacey, senior vice president and chief medical officer; Janell Cecil, senior vice president and chief nursing officer; and Heather Creason, director for Performance Improvement along with staff, nurses and other medical personnel who all made it possible to achieve this award.
The Heart Lung Vascular Institute was 1 of 7 Tennessee hospitals receiving this award. Congratulations to the Heart Lung Vascular Institute for their hard work and dedication!
